On behalf of our customers and employees, I'd like to thank you for allowing us to create a staging site at your property for hundreds of line crews and other workers who were part of the massive effort to restore service following Hurricane Sandy and the nor'easter.
As you know, the damage from these storms was unprecedented, knocking out power to nearly all of our customers. In fact, these storms caused more damage than 2011's Hurricane Irene and October snowstorm combined.
In less than two weeks, we responded to tens of thousands of reported hazards, and replaced 6,700 poles, 400 miles of wire and 3,600 transformers. During the peak of this effort, more than 8,400 lineworkers—including crews from JCP&L and other utilities and contractors across the country—were on the ground in New Jersey restoring power to our customers.
With your cooperation, we were able to lodge and feed many of those workers at your site and get them to the trouble spots as quickly and safely as possible.
I can't thank you enough for your support of this historic effort—and I'm sure the workers who benefited from your generosity are just as appreciative.
